I have an old computer that has 3g of c drive and was designed for windows 95. I don't know much about how computers work and I have no idea how to make anything work on my computer. I need someone to tell me if it is even possible to fix my computer.
P.S
I don't have any sort of key code for it.
How do I install linux on my computer?
Hi, I would say that u forget about keeping windows 95 on it and download a version of Linux like Damn small Linux or Xubuntu. You r going to have to burn the iso image onto a cd. I hope ur old computer has a cd drive because u will have to boot from the cd. Now choose the option to run live cd/install linux. It will run a live version of the OS by loading into ur ram. Here u can see if u like this version of Linux and whether all ur hardware is supported. Oh yeah another small version of Linux is Puppy Linux. There will be an installation option on the Linux desktop. It will ask u a few questions and then get to the partitioning.
The partitioning is the main part after u set that up then the rest of the installation and using Linux is pretty easy. Lets say u have a 3gb harddisk and 64 mb of ram. First u will have to delete all current partitions and create a partition with the "/" mount point. This is the root partition where Linux will be installed. Make this around 1gb. I am assuming ur harddisk is 3gb, if its more than u set it up on ur needs. Then u setup a swap partition with the "swap" mount point. This partition is used as extra ram incase ur system runs out of ram. If u have 64mb of ram then u make the swap partition of 128mb. You just double ur current ram for that partition. Now the third and the last partition is ur home partition which should have the "/home" mount point. This is where all ur personal files and folders, music and videos will be stored. Give this partition the remaining space.
Good Luck installing Linux and I hope I helped! Take care!
Reply:Yes, you can. Because Linux is open source anyone can use it. It doesn't need a key. The most popular versions of linux will all fit onto a single CD and some onto floppies. Currently Ubuntu(looks like Mac OSX) and Kubuntu(same as Ubuntu but with a more windows feel) are best, and come with comprehensive free software suite that you can choose to install.

Reply:If it has a cd drive, use your current pc to download, and burn as an image a linux distribution. Some good choices: http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resourc...
Read and research before you install it. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/... All you have to do is put your cd into the drive and start the computer, installation scripts will run from there.
