how many G.C.S.E's do you need and is it hard to get this sort of job?
What qualifications do you need to be a interior designer or a fashion designer?
u' need a diploma or a degree in order to learn the art and in order to establish ur credibility. otherwise its just a matter of talent, creativity and common sense
Reply:a degree
Reply:Aren't most interior deisgners self emplyed.
I'm sure that many go to design/art college (you may want to check out the entry requirments for these courses). But it probably takes a whils to build the contacts and I guess the most important qualification is Taste.
Reply:None what so ever. That's why there are so many board housewives doing it.
Reply:I would suggest doing gcses art, textiles and graphic design.
Take it from there, you can go onto a textiles or art course in college which could help lead to going to a university and doing a hnd etc.
I think to make it big, it would probeley be best to aim for a university in the city of london that is a special academy for fashion design.
Reply:After GCSE's, you need to do a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design - this is a 2 year course, where you study all aspects of art and design, and then specialise in one area in your second year. Alternativly, you can do your A Levels and then do a 1 year Foundation Course (which is the same level as the 2nd year of the BTEC course). To do the BTEC, i think you need 6 A*-C grades, but with top grades in art/design subjects, english and maths. After this, if you want to have a decent career, you should go to university and do a Ba in either Fashion Design or Interior Design (if you do the BTEC, it will help you know what you want to specialise in).
Coming from a design background myself, i know that having just a degree is not enough if you want a decent job. You will need to demonstrate plenty of work experience on your CV.
If you only do a BTEC, it will be very difficult to get a job in this design sector. You need the minimum of a degree (preferably a Masters too) and good self promotional skills. Fashion can be very competetive at higher levels. Interior Design may be easier to get into (if you are approaching from an architectural point of view) but you will still need the minimum of a degree for even the smallest firms.
I hope that this helps. Good luck.
Reply:its hard to get in fashion world and get a job but yes if you have qualification that could help but also expereince its other importan thing..
Reply:You don't actually need any. However, you should start with a general art foundation course, then there are higher levels (ND, HND, BA etc.) courses in specifc subjects. Yes, it is hard to get those sorts of jobs. You have to work hard, have a lot of talent and a certain amount of luck. Getting to know the right people is a must.
