before I can move around, hold my baby, how painful the spinal is, that sort of thing. Thanks!
I am having a C-section Tuesday, and am wondering how long after the surgery (having a spinal) it will be?
I had my first two children by c-section and will be delivering this one the same. As far as the spinal goes, that is really based on your tolerance of drugs, for me in both previous c-sections, after the baby is born, and taken for tests I sleep for a few hours so that the morphine can wear off a bit. But once you wake the nurses are more then willing to bring you your baby, and give you any help you need. when you are fully awake they will remove your catheter and you can then get up and go to the restroom, and what not on your own, they will also help you get a shower. After the surgery the most painful thing in my opinion is to laugh really hard or to cough. For this I always carry a pillow around with me to tuck under tummy to help soften the blow. it will take a few days before you are feeling like yourself and take a few months to completely heal, but it is not that bad, and your doctor can prescribe pain pills that will not effect the baby if you breast feed.
as far as dangers to baby, cesarean born babies do have the disadvantage of not having some of the excess mucus squeezed out during the birthing process, but this can easily be suctioned after delivery.
as for your body, you will lose feeling in your lower abdomine, some women get it back and there are women like me that do not. as for weakening your uterus, that is a precaution they worry about with a vaginal delivery after a c-section, and doctors have learned what to watch for and how to prevent these things. your doctor will scedual you for an apointment like a week after the surgery to check your insision, just keep it clean and dry! also, some doctors use stitches one the inside that desolve on there own, and a type of glue on the outside(that is what my doctor uses cause I am alergic to the medal staples) sometimes as the stickes desolve they can poke thru and be anoying, but your doctor can cut them, or I just let my husband do it, it is no big deal, just a bit anoying!
as for comfort,
I had a emergency c-section with my first child and the my doctor recomends that I not try a vaginal birth as I am high risk, I am glad that I live in this day were medicine has advanced so far that I can still have children without endangering there lives or my own!! the comfort has nothing to do with the surgury itself it is in knowing that I can safely have children, even if it is not vaginally!!
Best of luck!! and congrats!!
Reply:I was put to sleep with daughter and spinal with son, i will have another spinal. Its doesnt hurt, just the first shot to numb it feels like a pinch. Recovery is harded, walking around does help but its hard.Get a stiff pillow or blanket to walk and hold your tummy with, it hurts to laugh and caugh and sneeze. It takes a couple weeks to feel better but you'll be able to take care of your baby. Both my kids were perfectly healthy from c-section. Good luck!
Reply:Ok it is not sore when they are giving you a spinal, just uncomfortable. You feel alot of pressure on your lower spine, feels strange but not sore. The hospital staff will have you up and about using the toilet, showering etc the morning after the c-section. The wound will usually heal on the outside within a week but the inside will take at least six weeks to heal, all the tissue, etc takes much longer than the outside cut. It may be a few days, at least 24hours before you can get up and hold your baby yourself, therefore you will need family there to help you during this time. Hope it all goes well for you and goodluck :)
Reply:The spinal doesn't hurt at all. You know that feeling when your foot "falls asleep"? It feels like that but all over your body.
You don't have to wait at all to hold your baby. I was breastfeeding while in recovery with my second.
They will make you stay in bed for about 12 hours and then they will come and get you up and change your clothes, that sort of stuff and then after that you are free to roam about the hospital if you feel up to it. I can tell you from experience that walking around will help you feel better and speed up your recovery.
Reply:with a c section u have to wait to u heal than when the stiches come out u will be o k
Reply:I have had 2 csections. I was finally able to move around the day after I had surgery-they let me get up a few times. The nurse told me that if I wanted to pick up the baby when he woke up just to put my sons little bed next to mine and just raise my bed up. But the nurses were really helpful changing him and stuff when I couldnt move the first night. With the spinal, it was just alot of pressure on my back for a minute. I didn't think it was that bad. I was up walking around on the 2nd day in the hospital. But don't overdue it. The catheter sucks the first day or two and the doctor was trying to tell me to drink right after the csection...don't do it at first-it makes you nauseated. Just try some ice chips for awhile after surgery. If your spose or bf is going to stay in the hospital with you till you get out, its much easier. With me, my husband could only stay for a little while cause of my 4yr old got bored so it was harder but the nurses are real helpful. Congrats and good luck
Reply:Scot S is absolutely RIGHT..C-section is a horrible money making procedure that is highly overused..For those of you who don't understand the harm in having this type of surgery please see Ricky Lake's film. There is a complex mixture of hormones that a mother releases upon giving birth normally and vaginally that is essential for bonding and easy onset of breastfeeding..c-sections don't give you this. Babies born by c-section are very likely to have respiratory problems and a mother's are at higher risk for infection and death. The untold story is that c-sections cause horrible adhesions..meaning that the scar tissue from each surgery adheres to other organs like the bladder, ovaries, and intestines (thats what you should be worried about)
C-section is great if mom or baby are in danger, but to use it just because is hideous
Reply:Do not get a c-section,it is not natural, nor is it good for the baby.It makes the uterus weaker and the baby's lungs function alot better through a vaginal birth. It will take less time for you to heal and your abdominal muscles will be damaged and weakened too, plus the baby's immune system will be not be as good.
Don't get a c-section,think about the baby's health,not your comfort.
