I have it on there and I know its the right belt because the guy at Autozone looked it up on the computer and it was that one and one other kind, but it is sort of loose. Is there a way to tighten it?
How do I tighten my Fan and A.C. belt on my 88 Chevy Pickup?
it has a spring loaded tensioner thats what keeps it tight . You need to look it over and make sure its routed right there sould be a diagram under the hood if it is right compare the size of the old belt with the new belt .
Reply:its a serpentine belt.you got to loosen the tensioner.turn the tensioner to the right to loosen and then put on the belt and release the tensioner.
Reply:If its a V-belt, the best way I've seen on old trucks, was to adjust with the alternator. By loosening the adjust bolt(top one), and pry the alternator away from the motor, thus tightening your belt. If its a serpentine belt, more and likely its the tensioner binding, and sticking. Or is broke. Go ahead and get that replaced. Should cure your probelm.
