I have loaded up windows vista from scratch to try and sort it, I have 27.8 gig hard drive but only 3 gig available, i have no programs only what comes with vista. no music or videos and nothing in my c drive that is taking up so much???? any ideas
cheers
What is taking up so much space on my c drive?
If you have Vista Home Premium, Buissness, Ulitamate these all take up almost 15 gigs of space just in the Windows folder. Then programs like Moviemaker and the games that are in the Programs folder take up another 2 gigs or so. Vista takes up a lot of space and thats probally why you only have 3 gigs left on your harddrive.
Reply:You probably didn't allow 80% for your partition when you installed your O.S.
Reply:Are you sure?
Check My Computer ==%26gt; C and see what it lists. Also, where your programs are listed (several places; I usually just open up the Add/Delete Programs to see what it lists. The reason for that is it populates a list of everything on the drive and gives a hint at what the program does AND it tells you how much space it is eating up.
Most of the ones listed I have no idea what they are; my computer came with some game already installed; I deleted that (it took up about 400 MB of space) and everything else that I could, transferred ALL personal files to D drive. Most of the rest is Windows programs/updates.
Mine is only 13.97 GB with 3.29 GB available!
You have to stay on top of these things; when the available becomes only 15% or so, you computer will fail.
Don't forget all the obvious things: trash bin, defragmenter, disc cleanup, etc.
Reply:Musfan is right. Vista is a space-hog. It takes up nearly a quarter of my hard-drive, and I have an 80 gig hard drive with partition.
