My computer has C and D Local Disks, I want only 1.?

My computer freaked out and wouldnt boot up recently. I took it in to be fixed and they were able to save all of my music and files of that sort. They created a Local Disk D to transfer all of my old files into. That drive is now completely empty and unused and I would like to combine it so that I only have the C drive. The formats are the same. How do I combine them, is it something that I myself would want to do, or let someone who knows more do it?

You can use the partition editor on the system rescue cd to delete the D: partition, then expand the C: partition to span the entire disk. Works just like Partition Magic, only it's free.
Reply:Nope cannot be done there partitioned differently and ones a Master the others a slave. Your Operating system resides on the master, usually "C" "DO NOT PARTITION ANYTHING" you will lose all data on your drives. what there talking about only works with LINUX systems. I have read it can be done but windows does not like it..
Reply:Use Partition Logic, delete the D partition then expand the C partition to also include the unused space.

Don't use the windows version as it's destructive and will wipe your hard disk clean
Reply:If its physically one HD, then use a partition manager. DO NOT USE PARTITION MAGIC. Its screwed two of my computers already (I did fix them but it still sucked.) Use the partitioner on a live boot cd such as Ubuntu, works very nicely. If there are two physical drives in your computer, you should look up info on buying a RAID card since your mobo probably doesn't support it.

It is generally done when you install your operating system (Windows [Hello Monopoly]).





Really it can only be undone by re-installing windows and creating a partition using the entire drive.





I would'nt worry it will not harm your system and it is common practive to have 2 or even 3 partitions. One should contain recovery files. If the partition is a significant chunk of your drive it would be a good idead to use it to store large files videos, music etc.





Basically it's not a bad thing in effect its just a better form of file management and good practice. You can even run a second operating system on there.
